Someone told me that, in a way, George Soros brought Asia down back in 1997, is that true? can anyone tell me please?

Yes and no, He cannot exclusively be blammed for the asian crisis, but he did pull out in extremely quickly from the asian markets, which caused other to pull out. But what differed with Soros, is that he had purchased an incredible amount of hedging instruments and actually profited greatly from the demise of the asian markets. Just as anyone could gamble and win and lose some money, Soros has the uncanny ability to always profit in ANY financial crisis. Blunt and cold-hearted but usually right

Yeah, but, what they told me exactly is that, because George Soros SAID that there would be a crisis in Asia, all the markets went down cause "George Soros already said so, it must be true, there must be a crisis because Mr. Soros -the expert- already said so". So they only took his word for granted.

Is there also any truth to that?

Also, I understand he's the man who's made the most amount of money by merely speculating.

Soros is not some mystic, but he does have a vast network of business affiliates that could literally alter markets as they see fit. The key is to calculate when the rug will be pulled out from under- because basic fundamentals will kick in. American has literally no-savings, once the credit is cut off, it immediately causes catatonic shock in the markets, which is what we see taking place. Vultures like Soros just simply wait for dust to clear and buy assets for pennies on the dollar
