I thought other parents could see what our 25 month old boy Luca does with his Autism, we thought he had Aspergers but just recently got the diagnosis that it's plain Autism!
We are so proud of him for knowing his Alphabet and Numbers. His favorite toys are chalk and his Magna doodle. So I guess they call it Autism now when a child actually "wants" to learn :)
Just so everyone in the world can see...little Luca is awesome!!!

Also does anyone know anything about yourbabycanread.com? Just curious if it works

  • I am not disagreeing that he is on the spectrum (obviously, he has a diagnosis), but I find it odd that he was diagnosed with classic autism when he was talking and interacting so well at the age of two. I have an Aspergers diagnosis right now (currently being evaluated for classic autism though) and I was in my own world and did not talk until almost three. I became verbal and two months later lost all my speech. He seems more like Aspergers to me...

  • @littlelily613 He was completely non-verbal until about 2. At 2 I removed gluten, dairy, and high fructose corn syrup and he started the 1st steps program. With those 2 things...he became a different child. That expensive diet took about 2-3 months to see a difference but it was and is still worth every penny.

  • Tekmnd,

Since so many kids r having these symptoms I believe the doctors r waiting till the children r a little older 2 make sure. The more kids that have it the more the world will panic lol. It sounds 2 me like your child has it. He does everything my son does except for stimming and flapping. Even if they don't stim, it's still possible. Does he scratch a lot or pick at his fingers (just examples) I would have him reevaluated b4 he starts kindergarten regardless.

  • I didn't know much about autism until Luca came along. The doctors told us and recommended 1st steps. He is already in Occupational and Speech Therapy plus he started the "hand flapping" at only 2 months of age. So this has been a concern for us parents for 2 years.

  • Also, have you tried to teach Luca finger math? (using fingers to show how to add 1, 2, 3, etc.). Once my son figured out that, we started on the Houghton Mifflin Mathematics K-6 series. His ability to read has allowed him to zoom through this series. Don't listen to the experts as to what the limits of learning can be. Your son seems very smart and likely can finish through grade 4 math before he turns age 5.

  • Wow thank you for the info! Now I know what to get him for Christmas!! It's weird but awesome that he would enjoy a math program other than a regular child's toy =) So how old was your son when he mastered the Math Series?

  • he is adorable <3

  • my son is almost 3 and EXACTLY like this! Everything sounds exactly the same! =)

  • my daughter is 25 monhts and knows some of her alphabet, animals, 1-20, some colors, and the shapes. I have your baby can read, and it is really awesome. She loves it, even though we don't follow the program (so she cannot actually read yet) it helped with her word association (hand, foot, clap, open your mouth, arms up) that sort of thing. She LOVES to learn, and your little boy is so smart! I love this video and you are obviously great parents!

  • This is great ! My son is 4 now and he has always been very verbal. He has high functioning autism and he knew all his shapes and numbers and letters at about the same age as Lucas. Its cool to see other kids that are similiar to my son because they aren't stereotypical and it just shows that every child with autism is different. Its a huge spectrum. Thanks for sharing :)

  • Wow I am amazed at how smart he is. I suspect my 2 and half yr old is on the spectrum. I have been watching a heap of your clips tonight. But My boy doesn't talk like Luca does i this clip. But then none of my boys did. I am just stunned at how just turned 2, he knows his shapes etc. He is very cute!

  • @joleenlove Learning to talk at age two is not considered a delay though. The autism centre around here said that children usually speak before 2, but if you start speaking at 2, then you qualify as "no language delay". Still interesting. Either way, he has ASD. I have heard good things about that diet--glad it helped your son!

  • I have known Phil for years, Luca is awesome.

  • Thanks for this post. I'm going through this with my 18 month old and I'm terrified. He is going for testing soon.
