Frank Mir (pt 3 of 10) shows his half guard theory and the importance of moving the body as one (in unison) while there. This is part 3 in a series of videos from Frank. Next videos will show sweeps and blocking while on the bottom.

Special thanks to Island MMA (http://www.islandmma.com) for hosting the seminar!

  • I used to not be big fan of you guys cause I thought Ari was unqualified, excessive focus on the rubber guard and a lack of core fundamentals. But hey, you guys are consistently stepping it up bring in big names, teaching good solid fundimentals I'm extremely impressed. I'm also glad to see Ari competing.

  • @theredkid15 The goal is always to get better and seek out people better than yourself. I am glad I went down the road I did. 10th Planet is only one part of a whole. We always wanted Sub 101 to feature the top in the grappling world...cheers! Ari

  • @TheAdrenalineEffect You are correct. The gym space we were at was large so it had an echo effect. We will eventually get a HD camera and make things better for you guys. We appreciate the feedback ;-)

  • You can't write this guy off. He is so amazing as a learner that his defeat to Lesnar is going to radically mature him more than we realise. Instead of making excuses, he has carefully researched his own shortcomings. This has included his bjj history. I feel sorry for the next guy who fights him! I tell my kids at school a quote from Anatoly Karpov; "You learn more from one defeat than 100 victories". Well done Frank. You are an inspirational fighter and teacher.

  • Everyone is a teacher.

  • brock used better bjj than mir

  • really wanted to hear his point--he's a high level pro-but couldnt make it through the epilogue intro--SUGGESTION: show example move, then give theory, then break it down.

  • @itsmelindsayS Well, I guess that was a pretty stupid thing to say. I don't even know him. He just rubs me the wrong way sometimes, but he's a very intelligent fighter and I should give him more credit as a person. I'm ashamed of my quick judgement of him, and admit my folly in doing so before even getting to know him.

  • @iloveasiangirls you think hes a nice guy and a great teacher, but dont like him? because of his fights or what?

  • @2bowlsloaded420 The rubber guard isn't a bad guard. The issue with it is that it has a very limited application. The rubber guard requires your opponent to place their hand on the mat which, at an mid to upper level of Jiu-Jitsu, is extremely hard to do. It's a decent tool to have in a wide array of guards. For example Butterfly guard is my favorite right now but I certainly wouldn't endorse a system that almost exclusively endorses it. It just requires a very specific application.

  • @theredkid15 I think the focus on the rubber guard is awesome, im still a white belt (dont judge, i havent met a blue belt or even a purple belt that is my weight and able to submit me.) I have a very slick rubber guard that people really hate getting into....Not sure why people are hating on rubber guard..its a very effective position if you practice it like i do.

  • Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
