My hybrid cannon firing 10x propane/air mix with out a barrel. About 1800cui at 1000psi escaping out of a 2" opening. The stupid microphone on the camera overloaded so the recorded sound is not even close to the deafening sound there actually was.
i might be doing the math wrong or you might be if you spend as much time out in the field as i have and pipe lines blow up with 1000 + psi in them i will tell you that dont look like a 1000psi furthermore at a 1000 psi you wouldnt be able to hold it down in the set up you got thank you
I'm not sure what you mean by hold it down in my set up? If you mean the combustion chamber couldn't handle 1000psi, then your are mistaken. The burst pressure of the 6" pipe is 4300 psi, and with 3/4" plate capes, I find myself to be well with in a safe operating range at a 1000psi. Seeing as the combustion chamber is not failing, I don't find your comparison applicable to whether it appears there is a 1000psi or not exiting the 2" port.
You clearly are not familiar with pressurized fuel/air mixes or the concept of hybrid combustion cannons. For 1mol Propane, you require 5 mols oxygen for proper combustion. The provided oxygen is in the form of compressed air. For a precharge pressure of 6.44 psi propane, approximately 140 psi of compressed air is required for proper combustion. The final combustion pressure is slightly over 1000psi and the burst disk fails at a calculated 1000psi.

@uckilljoy What do you do if the disk doesn't fail?

@ariskk88
Vent the combustion gasses and replace the burst disk with a new one for another shot.
