@netguy02 I agree about the laziness of GH's writing! I left in August of 84 when Rose Kelly left and didn't return full time until Jerry Jacks' arrival in 1998. By the time Lou died, I didn't recognize many characters...all were written out of character, it seemed to me. I do know there was a a writer switch at that time.
@tammyramey I agree with you on all counts. Ultimately, I thought Steffi's story came across as a sick commentary of how powerful people in show biz are untouchable and can do anything--including kill someone--and get away with it. By the time Lou died, it seemed as if GH had become arrogant because of its success and lazy in its storytelling. Steffi getting away with killing Lou was one of the reasons I stopped watching the show. By mid-1985, I was no longer a regular viewer.
@netguy02 Yeah, Loanne Bishop/Rose wanted off the show, but months earlier she and Jake broke up over disagreements surrounding Lou's death. I loved Rose and Jake and was totally devastated when they broke up over something that was Steffi's fault. It was surely heartbreaking all around. I LOVED Lou and loved Blackie/Lou as a couple. Steffi should be in prison. Actually, poor Lou should never have died in the first place.
@tammyramey Lou's death was so shocking and senseless. It was understandable that Blackie would feel guilty, but Steffi was truly the one responsible because she shoved Lou into a table, which caused her fatal head injury. It was frustrating that the writers chose to have Blackie take the rap for Steffi, who was never brought to justice for what she did. Jake and Rose were a fantastic couple, and I hated the way they broke up. But I think the actress who played Rose chose to leave the show.
I still feel emotional as I watch part of this storyline all these years later. In part, it caused Jake and Rose, my fave couple, to split up, and I loved Lou. Thank you so much for posting.
