Crystal World - End
The party's final equipment is listed below. Note that not some things are equipped only because they were required for previous battles and I didn't bother to take the time to unequip them; not everything here is necessary for the final battles.

Zidane (level 30): The Tower, Coronet, Jade Armlet, Gaia Gear, Rebirth Ring abilities: Auto-Life, MP Attack, Bird Killer, Devil Killer, Man Eater, Counter

Freya (level 19): Kain's Lance, Cross Helm, Venetia Shield, Shield Armor, Power Belt abilities: Distract, MP Attack, Bird Killer, Devil Killer, Man Eater, Counter

Steiner (level 25): Excalibur II, Cross Helm, Venetia Shield, Shield Armor, Power Belt abilities: Distract, MP Attack, Bird Killer, Devil Killer, Man Eater, Counter

Amarant (level 23): Rune Claws, Coronet, Jade Armlet, Demon's Vest, Power Belt abilities: MP Attack, Bird Killer, Devil Killer, Man Eater, Counter, Locomotion

Both of these final battles were perfect. Like Kraken, Kuja likes to counter every time you hit him, with either Flare, Holy, or Flare Star, so using Charge! limited the number of times that Kuja would counter. Flare Star wipes everyone out, so I just needed him to not do that. For Necron, as long as Zidane survived until Neutron Ring (which always comes right after Grand Cross), I had won the battle.

Timing for this run ended right when the numbers from the final attack appeared, making the final time 8:32.

This is awesome, man. I might be able to beat this game in 15 hours without much planning. Props on your record (is it the best?) and keep it up. My all time favorite game. This was the game that got me hooked on RPGs forever. The last Final Fantasy on the PS1 and a perfect masterpiece. I play this game every couple years for some nostalgic euphoria.

You make me wanna play it again, I just beat it in June, lol.

@agentpaperman There's a Japanese guy who beat FFIX about an hour faster than I did, but he skipped FMVs and used a turbo controller. As far as I know, my record is the fastest without skipping FMVs, or at least it was at the time I completed it.

@CROta03 There's not a video of that run, unfortunately. And to skip FMVs, open the disc lid/tray during an FMV, and when you close it it'll skip the FMV.

I don't get it... Why do they call it 'officially impossible' for PAL users to get the Excalibur II. EssentiaFour beated this game in 8:32 on the NTSC version. So on the PAL version that will be somewhere around 10 hours. And this speedrun includes FMV's which you can skip, so it would be somewhere around 9 hours on the PAL version to beat the game. And to get the Excalibur II, you must reach the end of Memoria in 12 hours. So it's definitely possible I guess...

I believe it's possible to get the Excalibur II on the PAL version, but it's impossible to get a Perfect Game (i.e. get everything missable along the way).

EssentiaFour, thank you so much for this speedrun. I'm really grateful there's people in this world that has your tremendous patience. This must have taken a long, long, long time to prepare for, reseting, planing strategy, some more reseting and even more reseting... and almost all that effort were for our entertainment. I salute Thee our Queen and I hope Thou reign shall never end!

ff9 IS better than 7.. i dont get why 7 got so overhyped that much :S

i guess ffix would have gotten much more attention without the negative feedback of 8 (which is great eiter!) and if it came out for the PS2 with better graphics...

yes gimme a ff9 remake or a similar game, maybe even aa ff9-2!!

it's sad how ff9 is the only game of it's kind, it's style, the charmes of it's characters...

i played many JRPG's since... but nothing came even close :(

Great run. Is there a tally for the total length of all FMVs in the game? Could use that to subtract from your time to find your Non-FMV time.
