Chieli Minucci with his group Special EFX are considered one the greatest innovators on today's contemporary jazz scene. The Song "DAYBREAK" from His CD title "Global Village", released back in 1991 by GRP record, still remains one his most successful productions ever.
A couple of years ago, I had an opportunity to speak with him about the story behind this particular song and the collaboration on it of his good friend, singer multi-instrumentalist Mark Ledford, who sadly passed away in the year 2004, at the very young age of 44. "Daybeak" is a very emotional and spiritual tune for for Chieli and one of Special EFX's group signature song.

I started out with Philip Hamilton when he was just a little 13-14 year old kid, he was our lead singer in my group i was17 all i got to say as a father of 5 and a grandfather of 7 tears come to my 54 year old eyes when i see my best friend of 40 years now and how remarkable he has become even more as like he was at 14 in my cellar he is so angry i did by pursue the drums i remember then little retro lube Arlington would come to my cellar and watch our group in awe she was from the same neighbor
