Fairfield is a replica of a Brisbane (Queensland Australia) suburban station on the Gold Coast line as it currently is today. What makes Fairfield unique is that interstate trains to Sydney also pass through Fairfield on the dual gauge line at the front of the layout. Most of the Queensland Railways models have been produced by PGC scale models and Black Diamond models. The New South Wales locomotives and rollingstock are available through AR kits, Austrains, Trainorama as well as various other kit and RTR manufacturers.

Fairfield was operated by Phil Hadley & Glenn Wright at the Hobsons Bay (Collingwood) 2008 model railway exhibition. Geoff McMahon (Buildings) and Ian Fainges (back scene painting) assisted in presenting Fairfield for your enjoyment.

I have added authentic QR train sounds for your viewing pleasure.

  • Awesome set up you have there mate.. I'm a Train Driver and Queensland and would love to set up something like this with all QR locos and trains.. Might even throw in a PN train even thought I'm not a fan of them.. lol.. How much does something like this cost you..?

  • @jamesDJRPM

Didn't cost me anything as the layout belongs to someone else :-)

These days a general ballpark figure for ready to run Australian locomotives is $250+ each, and wagons $50+ each. Some can be cheaper, some can be a lot more expensive...

  • The sound effects sounds like Trainz Railroad/Railway Simulator :P

  • I first saw this layout in Australian Model Railway Magazine, June 2008. Wonderful to see footage. It's a beautiful model.

  • 444mrjimmy your comment is wrong the sound is from EMU units not an ICE both have DC motors but there is a differents. The EMU has a direct drive, motor to axle using cogs. where as the ICE is Motor-idler cog-axel so you can hear a difference in noise

  • the sounds wer compleatly wrong and the electric loco you see the sound was defanatly an ICE not an SMU the bigest giveaway was the horn and the second bigest give away for me was the buzz from the motors as it powerd away ive been on the loco that dose that and it sed a verry large vibration through the caridge and the bogies were compleatly wrong on the electrics but apart from thit it was good
