This is the most impressive part of Miss USA forever , everything is perfect ... state's delegate, theme song, the semifinalists and the winner.
-
Arizona, like Colorado, also looked like a movie star - a 50-year old movie star.
-
California totally had the '80s beauty queen look and would have fared much better had she not mentioned the weight-watchers thing in her interview (or if she found a more appealing way of presenting it).
-
Louisiana (who looked like Jaclyn Smith) topped the prelims, but bombed the interview during this night (turning off the judges, who eventually gave her lower scores in the swimsuit and evening gown portions). She competed in the Miss Asia-Pacific Pageant that year (made it to the semi-finals, if I remember correctly). Colorado looked like a 40 year-old movie star.

WOw! Gretchen (TX) was heads and tails the best in gown and beauty IMO.

@lexlib Illinois gown was awful, the color alone was terrible.
I vividly remember this pageant. I remember this song and I even cut out in the newspaper an article about Texas reigning for 5 years in a row! I always thought Gretchen Polhemus was gorgeous. I have this on tape somewhere. I can't find it anymore. Thank goodness for youtube.

This was the best evening gown competition ever - they all looked great! Long sleeved gowns seemed to be really popular.
