Just the approach and the landing part.
This was a 19 hrs flight, but still, and the end, I was still left with 25 x 1000 fuel. The flight conditions were: 41000 feet, not under it, because the air isn't thin enough, for the engines to run less revved up. Revving them less means less fuel burning. Another condition was NOT over 0.8 Mach.
Not being any ILS frequency assigned to that runway made it a little harder. What made it most hardest was the fact that, at each end of the runway, there are forests. The result is, you have to descend immediately after you've gone past the trees.
I extended the speed brakes, 'cause I thought I won't have time and space enough to stop, so I wanted to touch down as soon as possible. I closed them back again, 'cause leaving them opened would've led to hitting the ground, damaging the landing gear. I repeated the action. (Btw, I did it this way, when I landed at Princess Juliana from the hill).
Anyway, I think I scraped a little bit the top of the last trees, while coming down.
Thing is, I'll have to take-off back to Cape Town, to take the scientists back =)). The journey doesn't end here! They have to take-off, heading Palmyra Island, further to the N-W. The runway there is only 1.7 kms long, so the 747 can't land there, especially as it is, too, surrounded by a forest.
I'll upload that soon.
Hope you enjoy this!
Just look for Cassidy (as an airport name), in the Pacific Ocean. Palmyra is 350 mi (800 kms) to the N-W. Look for them also on G. Earth. You'll see they are absolutely beautiful exotic islands.

  • what is kiribat

  • @Chamath5

Look after 1 59'10.51" N 157 20'56.26" W in Google Earth (copy/paste). It's in the Pacific Ocean, although I think it might take you some 8 hours to get there :p

    See ya!

  • Can you really land B747-400 in Cassidy International Airport PLCH in real life?

  • I guess you can... As long as it's not fully loaded. However, I don't think regulations allow it to. :))

  • I made my First landing on it at night on PMDG B747-400 a bit hard landing but I safe the plane fuel at about 25% with 450 passenger in it I made a video to but have it upload it yet.

  • Can't wait to watch it! :)

  • Yeah, I think I'll always love to land on remote islands, without ILS freq. and having to come in low, and watch out for the trees :))

Thing is, I stupidly deleted the recording of the landing at Palmyra. And I tell you, it's been fabulous! That runway is so short and surrounded by trees, too, that I had to fly there with a 737. And I went about 1400 ft off the runway, but it was safe and O.K.!

  • cool, great work!
