This is the Maid of Honour speech I gave at my best friend's wedding on 18 April 2009. The first lines are cut out, but my full speech is written below. There may be one or two jokes that go over your head, but that's because the speech is personal, and is mainly intended for the bride and groom, and close friends and family. The speech goes:
"We are all here today to celebrate the close bond between two people: Danielle... and myself Alright, Danielle and Tim.
My name is Stephanie and I have the privilege, the wonderful privilege, of being Danielles Maid of Honour today. So Id like to thank Danielle, first of all, for such a significant privilege. I love you.
Danielle and I met in 2000 (which was the eighth grade for us) and we became really close once we entered high school together. We had three classes in a row together, though So we just became better friends purely out of convenience. Nevertheless, weve had eight-and-a-half years of friendship together.
Throughout those years, as Im sure you can imagine, a lot has happened. Danielle and I have travelled in three countries together (but NOT to Aruba cause its not that nice, right?). Ive seen her dance the Funky Chicken on so many occasions that the image is permanently etched into my memory. Weve just grown so much together. In all honesty, I cannot possibly pinpoint a story for everyone here that can properly illustrate my friendship with this fantastic woman. Im so proud to be able to call her my friend.
The one thing I can tell you is that in those eight-and-a-half years I have never seen anybody make Danielle happier, and somehow simultaneously make her roll her eyes more, than that man sitting next to her. I cant really say that I was surprised when Danielle told me that she was going to marry Tim. They are both such warm people, and anybody whos around them can really feel how much they love each other. Its in their hugs, its in every little Yes Dear or Okay Honey, its in the way Tim lets Danielle catch the bigger fish, and its even felt when they say nothing at all but just look at each other. Even just watching Tim go through the wedding preparations, its noticeable just how happy Danielle makes him. Tim looks like he can take on the world if he wants to, so long as Danielle is there with him. And I know that he gives her that same feeling back.
So right now, Id like to propose a toast to the beautiful couple, Danielle and Tim: May you learn through, and live for, each other forever. I love you both, and wish you every happiness. To the bride and groom!"
That's a gorgeous speech Steph, you did a great job.
