Your "parabola" is not a parabola China. It isn't parallel to a generator. What you got was a bit of an ellipse. Furthermore, your hyperbola doesn't need to be perfectly vertical. Anywhere between vertical and parallel to the cone's edge (where it will become a parabola), will do.
