Taking place moments before the infamous opening scene of "Halloween", our story opens up in 1963 with a young Michael Myers, trick or treating with his older sister, Judith. But through a series of supernatural events, Michael is hunted down by a dark shape and forced to confront the evil within.

A WORD FROM CHRIS

"Myers" marks the third and final chapter in my prequel trilogy. My biggest challenge in this project was to take a character whom you barely see for more than 30 seconds before getting killed, and making her into a likable teenage girl from 1963. I wanted people to identify with Judith, her love for Michael and her affections towards her boyfriend. I also wanted to remind people that Michael wasn't born a monster. He mysteriously changed into one. And prior to that change, he was just a normal kid, maybe even a precocious one.

Zoe Sloane and Vincent Depinto did equally brilliant jobs bringing these easily classifiable two dimensional characters to life. Zoe was charming and goofy, as well as tender. She showed she cared about Michael and took the time to ease his fears about the Boogeyman.

As for Vincent, he gave the audience what I feel they have been missing for many years; this includes the remake. Michael Myers was a regular kid who one day snapped. Without any discernible reason, he just shut down and went insane. But before he did, he was like anyone else out there. And Vincent played up that aspect of the role effortlessly.

Since this was a prequel, I had to set the film prior to the events of the first film, just as I did with "Krueger" and "Voorhees". Though with "Myers", there was actually little to work with. Or so most would think. The movie immediately opens with young Michael on the prowl. And while the remake attempted to shed some light on what drove Michael, it in no way tied in with the original series nor could it. So I did what I thought was best, I went in the exact opposite direction of the remake and instead of having Michael the product of a white trash broken home, I gave him a warm, happy childhood with a positive family dynamic.

The audience should never root for the killer to massacre his own family. (pending the killer is not the protagonist) They should root for the family members to survive. But when you know they're doomed no matter what, its even more heart wrenching and makes for a better kill.

These are the things I take into account when writing characters.

  • @blinky500 Michael Myers was a regular kid who one day snapped. Without any discernible reason, he just shut down and went insane. see this is what you put says no reason so how was i supposed to know if it says no reason.

  • @supertoychannel seeing as how this a prequel short film, all you need to do is watch HALLOWEEN to understand whats happening. if you havent watched the original film, then perhaps you should to better understand whats happening.

  • why is he all of a sudden evil after he kills the other guy

  • @supertoychannel did you not read the info box.

  • so is this supposed to be the beggining of Halloween one by john capenter?

  • @shaun4225 i thought that went without saying.

  • @Syndaka i based my story on the information ive gathered over the years from interviews with john carpenter, debra hill and personal encounters with cast members and their experiences. also, the simple fact that if michael was truly an evil child, why the hell would they let him dress up at age six and wander around the property unattended? its obvious he was normal at one point.

  • Interesting take on it, however, what makes you assume Michael just "snapped" all of a sudden? There's no evidence of such in the original film, its always seemed like more of a situation where Michael had always been evil, but hadn't directly acted on it, had appeared quiet and reserved, the Evil basically lying dormant within, waiting for the right moment to mature and unleash itself.
