is it worth downloading it for free on steam? or does it get you to the point, where you get kind of forced to buy stuff in an online shop, like runes of magic?

@Dezzil You can play just fine without paying until you reach the late 80s/level 90 (the current max level). The hardest dungeons at high level do need decent equipment, and free players cannot equip the best equipment in the game without paying.

But you can play for a long, long time before reaching that level, and then you could just make an alt.

The freeplayers end up on another server? Thats not very good is it?

Im doing a 14 day free trial now, i would like to see other newbies. So far i have seen 5 or so.

A lot of chatter on the OOC chat though.

@Kvergjelme I wasn't aware the 14 day free trial still existed on the premium servers.

It's a real shame but I think those premium servers are dying. I'd really reccomend trying out the EQ2 Extended server. Note that you can upgrade to the full, paid-for service and stay on that server. You just share it with the people who aren't paying.

Intelligent review of EQ2X here! You mentioned a lot of things that most of the popular "mmo youtube reviewers" did not and I appreciate that. Hopefully I am right in saying that most of us would like to see a review that talks more about game play rather than the typical 2 minutes, create character, log in, and grab quests, you have done an excellent job of covering this game for someone who is thinking about joinging. @Kvergjelme im on the same server as everyone else, freeport server, maybe they changed it recently. I just paid for a single month and im very happy i did! it's worth every penny!

@Dezzil its free and still has 8 classes and 4 races, some minor chat restrictions, and how much bag space,gold carried and the like. it really is very fun as a free game, but buying additional races and classes later with a one time purchase of a silver membership opens things up almost entirely. or you can pay monthly, but like i said it's still the best free MMO out!

ima try it out,saw it on steam today :) this game is atleast actualy free.DDO is also "free" except that you only get 15% of the whole game when you don't pay. and since im getting bored with wow this is a nice thing to do whiel waiting for guild wars 2.
