  • Nice to hear his voice. Sounded more like a southerner than a Boston Brahmin. Crazy guy who was one of America's finest poets.

  • then there are the others like Salinger who run from fame: when asked why did he write Catcher in the first place, he said I had not notion I would be so famous

  • I love Lowell for the generosity of his thieving heart! He so wanted fame, but the poems were already beyond all that... The man could write! He often called himself the first "chemo-poet" because he began taking drugs prescribed for depression, and as such was an early victim (and beneficiary, depending upon your take on the drugs' effect on him) of a belief that if only we could get the balance right in the brain...

  • Do you have information on when and where this was recorded? It sounds like a somewhat older Lowell, perhaps in his last year.
