EDIT: This video used to have the sweeping score from the Lord of the Rings movies, with the video edited to be in time to the music.... but AMG had my video banned for Copyright violation (!) so I had to add some random music to it.... ahh well, enjoy the figures still!!

These are two Sideshow Collectibles LOTR action figures that I resculpted and repainted to (in my opinion) make them look more like the actors from the films. The clothes on Aragorn were heavily weathered and detailed to make them more screen accurate, and less like the 'brand new toy' clothes they used to be.

I'll be doing more videos over the coming weeks/months of my work.

more of my private work/commissions are on my blog at http://www.darrencarnall.com

thanks for looking!

  • guys, thank you *so* much, seriously.

DarthVada - I didn't actually change the sculpt, all this was done with paint. Surprisingly the sculpt underneath the factory job is really good. It just needs a detailed decent paint job to bring it out.

I never got the Premium Format version, that would be amazing to paint.

  • thanks weenie! Luckily the sculpt on the Sideshow Aragorn head is really good underneath the factory paint job, so a decent repaint certainly brings out the likeness. Thanks for the compliment though!

  • thank you so much, ...i do try ;)

  • TheRingOfSauron - thanks for that! I appreciate that.

(and of course people... I do take commissions. Don't forget to checkout my website. Details on the top right of this page)

....was that too much of an advert? hehe

  • thanks guys, always nice to get such lovely comments. artlover76, for Legolas I used a two part epoxy clay called 'Milliput'. This dries hard in a few hours. I'm in the UK, but I'm sure there are equivalents wherever you live. At the moment however I'm using Super Sculpey, which you bake in the oven to make set. Both work fine... good luck with your practicing!

  • Thanks guys! Means a lot to get comments like those.

The Legolas figure in this video is now up on eBay, sad to see it go... but funding the upcoming honeymoon across the USA is a worthy cause to sell off my prize possessions!!

Hope it goes to a good home.

    Darren
