With each day comes the opportunity for one to better their lives. But what happens when the wings of opportunity are clipped by circumstances? That is the dilemma facing thousands of girls who are at times forced out of school owing to inadequate sanitation facilities. Official statistics from girl child networks put the numbers at 868,000 girls who miss 4 or 5 days of school every month since they cannot buy sanitary towels, translating to nearly 40 days of missed schooling in a year. We take a look at the predicament facing girls in some of the schools in Tana River district whose futures hang in the balance.
