I agree with Nakorn24. Even in French, Vientiane doesn't sound like Viang Jan either. We should change for good.

vientiane the spelling is french thats why english pronounce it vieng tien.. lao people need to change the spelling.

just came across this today about a place that i haven't seen or let alone remember as a child..i myself was born there and i must go back, been over 30 yrs...and what a beautiful exotic country...thanks to the Today show for visiting my country...and must say very proud to be Laosian... =)
