Highlight of the World Tipiṭaka Recitation 2008

Highlight of the World Tipiṭaka Recitation 2008 includes audio and video archives of the special event organised nationwide in memory of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, Royal Matriarch of Thailand and Patron of the World Tipiṭaka.

The mass recitation of the Buddha's words in Pāḷi, the original language of Dhamma, was participated by people from all walks of life.

All those who joined the event recited from the World Tipiṭaka, not in the Thai script, but in the Roman script, a universal script of the world. It is hoped that through this meritorious act, millions of people in Thailand and the Tipiṭaka patrons in various countries will realize that the Tipiṭaka is not limited to Sri Lanka, Myanmar or Japan but is a world heritage, and that it could be recited together in Pāḷi, --the indigenous language of Dhamma-- transcending all national and other parochial confines imposed by local languages, national scripts, and individual belief systems.

The event thus fulfilled the wish of the late beloved Princess Galyani Vadhana who encouraged Dhamma Society to make a message of Wisdom and Peace in the Tipiṭaka widespread among the common people worldwide.

In 2004, the Princess graciously accepted the Honorary Presidency of the World Tipiṭaka Project in Roman script and in 2005 lead a special royal Tipiṭaka pilgrimage from Bangkok to Colombo --a historic trip less than 24 hour-- to present the inaugural commemorative set in 40 volumes as a royal gift of Dhamma to the President of Sri Lanka, the cradle of the world's written Tipiṭaka.
