Also known as Garota de Ipanema. Josh Turner and Larkin Dodgen attempt the Tom Jobim classic that made Bossa Nova popular and launched Astrud Gilberto's singing career. Forgive my Portuguese. Guitar is a Gitane D-500; mics are a pair of Audio Technica AT2050's, camera is a Kodak Playsport. Thanks to Carson McKee (channel: drakeelliot) for helping with the recording. Please feel free to leave thoughts and suggestions!

  • With the previous comment noted, this upload is not my favorite due to an uncharacteristic, yet apparent, lack of attention to detail (you've set a very high bar). Specifically, the four instrumental tracks are slightly out of sync at times and the guitar video appears out of sync with the audio. The overall instrumental performances are great, but not, in my opinion, up to your usual standard. On a more positive note, the vocals are fabulous and the overall concept/arrangement is brilliant.

  • @Prolocity @Prolocity Hey- thanks very much for your honesty. I actually had to remove this comment from the spam list to reply haha. This comment is far from spam and frankly I prefer constructive criticism to lavish compliments. I absolutely agree with you. The music and video are not in perfect sync and the mandolin chop is most definitely occasionally out of time. I was going to fix these things last night but found to my dismay that the raw files in the editing software (continued in next)

  • @Prolocity had gotten messed up, so all i had was the version that I had sort of thrown together over break. I was in fact not particularly happy with the mandolin solo and was going to do another take of that as well, but now I'll just have to let things be. Thanks again for following my videos and giving your honest opinion.

  • @azpunky Thanks so much! On the subject of harmony—alas, not on this song. But we did record one more song together when we were both back in Charlotte... You need only wait a few weeks!

  • Very good. First time seeing you guys. I was very impressed with the Portuguese and equally very impressed with the girl's voice. If you don't mind a suggestion, I think you (girl) could try holding some of the notes ( smile....) and softening it a little. Think of warm golden honey. But mainly I am very impressed all round. Thumbs up from Ireland.

  • Ever planning on a Jack Johnson cover?

  • A plus. Your entire channel is incredible (especially all the bluegrass) and I admire your ability to play so many instruments so beautifully, but this video particularly caught my attention. It's great.
