Kinematic Writing Machine

A demonstration of a kinematic machine that writes the letters "OSU." A selection of kinematic machines from the collection of The Ohio State University's Department of Mechanical Engineering are included in the exhibition Objects of Wonder from The Ohio State University, on view September 26, 2008 - January 11, 2009

The Columbus Museum of Art and The Ohio State University have shared a passion for knowledge and collecting for more than one hundred and thirty years. The writing is crooked due to the age of the machine. Writing examples from an earlier period were much clearer.

It's plain to see that the bar across the paper is meant to lift the pen inbetween letters.
