  • Ah yes, in would roll the metal trolley. VCR the size of a small village, telly crafted of solid oak.

  • My god. A blast from the past or what?

This reminds me of the good old days in primary school sat in a circle around an old battered 80's school tv.

  • I'm a little too old to remember this from Junior school, but the 80's and early 90's version of events was pretty much the same as I remember, no doubt. The TV on wheels was usually inside a cabinet type thing that, when the doors were opened, there was folded flaps which opened out in order to prevent light from the windows/ceiling from reflecting off the screen. I'm sure there used to be a company, somewhere, who made these TVs exclusively for schools as you never ever saw them anywhere else!

  • I cam remember the teacher fast forwarding the ident and me getting a bollocking for stopping it with my tv remote watch. Back in the day eh?

  • THis is from 14th September 1987

  • This video is actually the first ever showing of the new look on 14/9/87. & also, fact fans, before the ident there were some 4tel pages and a couple of minutes of black. There's an art to the building of suspense, as one C4 announcer once said.

  • @gobbygirl77 It was for schools who didn't have video recorders - so teachers could either wheel the TV into the classroom or get the students into the TV room (in our case it was the library & music room) and settle down for the programme. Not so much an issue for our school though - as early as 1983 (from having looked into my old primary school video archive a year or so ago) they were recording schools programmes from ITV and BBC on video.

  • Watching this brought A Lot of memories back... innocent, happy times :)

  • better than normal lessons

  • In school, we never watched this when it was being broadcasted - they would've been recorded on video for us to watch - and watching a video for us was rare cos we were in a school where there was only one tv for the whole of junior school
