On October,28th,2010, I visited an event to the 25th anniversary of the Space Shuttle flight STS-61-A ("Spacelab D1") at the University of Stuttgart-Vaihingen in Germany.
On October,30th,1985, the Space Shuttle "Challenger", flight STS-61-A, also named "Spacelab D1", launched from Cape Canaveral with the crew Henry Hartsfield, Steven Nagel, Guion Bluford, James Buchli, Bonnie Dunbar, Ernst Messerschmid, Reinhard Furrer and Wubbo Ockels into space. The highlight of the flight was to dedicate the German Spacelab. The flight finished with the landing in Edwards Air Force Base in California on November, 6th,1985.
Five crew members of this flight, the astronauts Henry Hartsfield, Steven Nagel, Guion Bluford, Bonnie Dunbar and Ernst Messerschmid and the further astronauts Linda Godwin and Ulf Merbold attended at the jubilee performance in Stuttgart and reported about the "Spacelab D1" mission and beyond. It was really interesting to listen to their experiences in space and it was impressive as well to meet these astronauts in person.
This movie shows impressions about this beautiful STS-61-A anniversary performance at the Campus of the University of Stuttgart-Vaihingen in Germany.
