@jmc1987jcgc That probably was partially true--in the beginning. But the other half of that truth is that LMP was husband hunting, and as Brett said she "relentlessly pursued" Michael. The problem with that scenario was Michael wasn't particularly interested in LMP, but he was very interested in salvaging what was left of his career. Chandler's false accusations were really taking their toll--particularly in the U.S. where Michael was viewed as a threat to it white American icon.

@jmc1987jcgc From Michael's perspective, the PR marriage had been a dismal failure. Not only had it failed to ally the media and the public's fears (which were completely unfounded), it had not given him the children he deeply wanted.

@LiarsBurnInHell Michael would not have married her to look good in the media because it wouldn't have worked and it didn't. Michael would have married her because he gave a shit about the media. He did whatever he felt was the right thing to do or what he wanted to do, no matter what anyone else thought. Media did not stop him from having kids sleep over and it did not force him to marry someone. It is not always what it looks like and Michael was the last person to give media what they wanted.

@LiarsBurnInHell Well, LMP said whatever suited her needs. One moment she says, they had no contact, next moment she said, he called and asked if she still loves him. She said no and he cried. So what are we supposed to believe. Only she knows if and why they stayed in contact or why not and she wouldn't say anything to make herself look bad, would she. I don't believe it was a staged marriage. Do you really believe Michael was so stupid to marry her for those reasons. He was highly intelligent

all i wanna say is that he divorced her cuz she turned out at the end horrible.go look in the diana sawyer show she regret marrying him.i hate her.mj is da best and even if he beats me to death i would be with him cuz nothing will change my love for him,she loused everyting up.i know mj is nice and caring he would never be mean or bad to her,she lied.RIP Amen

Well I'm not a fan of LMP but still think we shouldn't say it was for PR unless MJ clearly said that. MJ had loads of love for everyone and I suppose, reading too much into it wouldn't be so difficult but he was also easy target. The world turned against him but she didn't. He may have thought that he loved her but woke up when she turned on him with the strongest weapons a woman has, sex and children. She refused either to manipulate him but he didn't fall for it and then Debbie came along.. :)

@jmc1987jcgc Moreover, despite a considerable amount of advice to the contrary--and Michael's own gut instincts--it was LMP who had persuaded Michael to settle out of court with Chandler--which was a decision he soon regretted and proved to be an enormous PR blunder that he and his career never recovered from.
