@KrazedKazoo Personally i think that the very least the hobbyist can get away with is a single 20% change once a month.

My levels start heading south around day 14 with no partial water change. Also around this time my calcium is under 400, and iodide needs supplementing. By day 21 nitrate levels will be 4-6. All of this is with no dosing. If vodka dosing there are no detectable nitrates but my calcium goes faster (probably the heavy skimming) I can dose Kents 2 part and keep calc stable.

I haven't changed the water in my 40g reef for about two months and all my coral is doing fantastic. Xenia pulses like crazy. Maybe I'm lucky, but you shouldn't have to worry too much.
