  • Story songs and murder ballads have been the proviince of folkies from time immemorial. I am certain that John Prine would appreciate Brian Wright's craft, just as I know Brian appeciates Prine, and Townes and Guy and all who have come before. I am happy that this legacy continues. For me these songs about life are more meaningful that the pop stuff that is instantly disposable. And it is not a competition, instead, a legacy that is handed down to each generation.

  • you guys need to back off. i personally know Brian and he is about true a songwriter as the world gets these days. yes, he's a fan of John Prine. that means what? it's a crime to soundl ike someone? should be an honor to have that kind of compliment.

if you don't like him, youtube has so many other musicians that you can click on and listen to. most of them will not be people that actually wrote their songs or played their own instruments.

  • Why do you still persist insulting me ? This only falls back on you. You dont't know me at all and my words were not meant for you. To me it is not a new song, but a dubious remake. To you it's an original and a masterpiece. So what ? Only Mr. Wright could explain what he had in mind when writing this song. But I don't think that this issue is of any further relevance. Musicfog's comment is a wise last word. Amen !

  • @genesisiscoming. Yes John Prine and Brian Wright both use G, C, Dm chords. You are also correct in that i do not have to defend him but I’m going to. I do hope that you will not make such public comments accusing a time tested songwriter of stealing someone else’s song as their own. I have met both Prine and Brian Wright. I have seen them both live on multiple occasions. I don’t pretend to know them but i do gather they would both find you petty and of poor character.

  • From the first few notes and the phrasing of Mr. Wight it is so obvious that it's not his song and it remains like that until the end of his performance.

  • @DeiwertInsurance There's no need to defend Mr. Wright. As I'd mentioned, I think he is quite talented and I enjoyed listening to him. But it's a pity to perform a song, that is a complete remake of an older song of someone else and just add different lyrics. Maybe you know John Prine, but you definitely don't know his song "Donald & Lydia" or you did'nt make the effort to compare both songs.

  • I completely agree with you Deiwertinsurance!!

  • @genesisiscoming. You are weak. Brian is a fan of Mr. Prine as all songwriters should be. This song is not even in the slightest bit like Donald & Lydia besides that there are male and female characters. Please dont comment on something you know little about. Brian shows nothing but great respect for all songwriters that have come before him. This is a great song...just leave it at that.

  • Nice performance and I like his voice. Unfortunately this song resembles very much John Prine' s "Donald & Lydia". Is he an admirer of old John Prine? If so, he'd better leave the musical legacy of Prine untouched.

  • I really enjoyed listening to this.
