Tumble Bee, the first children's record from the prolific Laura Veirs, inspires listeners to lean in close and hit replay. The youthful innocence in Veirs' voice lends itself well to the jaunty spirit of the album, a collection of American folk songs. She and renown record-producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Sufjan Stevens), her long-time collaborator on seven of her eight records, have created a piece of art that is sure to appeal to children as well as adult fans of Veirs' previous work. As Smithsonian Folkways recording artist Elizabeth Mitchell says, "This is a luminous, smart, essential and truly extraordinary album."

Inspired by the birth of her son and by countless fans who've told her over the years how much their kids love her records, Veirs became curious about the history of American children's music. She and Martine listened to hundreds of songs from the past several centuries, including Harry Smith's famous Anthology of American Folk Music. They selected what Veirs calls, "a sampling that reflects our richness as a people." Tumble Bee was recorded at home in the Spring of 2011.

"Many of these songs have been forgotten throughout the years," says Martine. "We wanted to bring these beloved songs to a new generation with an instrumentation that both honors their traditions and creates something unique."

A joyous testament to this collective history, Tumble Bee embodies both the uplifting and fearful moments of childhood. Listeners of all ages will revel in Veirs in her prime.

  • The more I listen to the wonderful "TUMBLEBEE" the more I realise the LOVE & CARE that went into creating it.

Yesterday on a Chilly Night I took the liberty to use one of my favourite tracks in a video that I created "Our Farmhouse On A Chilly Night. (LOL)

I sent a copy of "TUMBLE BEE" to my eldest son to help his two Lively Sons to settle down in the Evening & I hope they all enjoy it as much as I have.

GINORMOUS THANKS to LAURA & the MERRY BAND that created this TRULY SUPERB ALBUM.

  • Yesterday, 22.2.2012, I drove around Thirty Miles to Walsall in the Heart of the Midlands to buy "TUMBLE BEE", primarily for two of my Grandchildren, but I enjoyed it So Very Much that I created a Video, "MY WORST VIDEO EVER!!!! (LOL)" to alert friends to THE BEST ALBUM that I have heard in Ages!

I heard Bob Harris on Radio 2 enthusing about the CD & an interview with Laura, just a little while back, so I thought "TUMBLE BEE" would help get Jacob & Ethan to sleep at Night!

    WELL DONE LAURA.

  • I am going to the Lowry to see this! :D

  • Was the song inspired by yr baby's trilling during car transfers in yr last Europen tour?

  • cant wait for it!

Will laura sign a few copies of the preorders like she did with July Flame?
