In the depths of the Depression, a party game brings dizzy socialite Irene Bullock to the city dump where she meets Godfrey, a derelict, and ends by hiring him as family butler. One of my favorite characters in this movie is the long suffering father.I feel sorry for him since he seems to be the only sane person in this crazy household.And he cares for his daughters altough he seems to spoil them too much.

That mid-Atlantic accent they use is so annoying! It's such a put-on. The only one who doesn't seem to have it is Lombard.

@JanWest24 The wonderful and prolific Mr. Eugene Pallette. He's one of my favorites, but you should remember that he's a characterization of the upper crust and you shouldn't feel sorry for him, but, of course, I have to contend that is part of the purpose of this picture, no matter how much I adore this movie, William Powell and, lately, Carole Lombard.

In the "Thin Man" series, William Powell smoked throughout, usually with a cocktail in his other hand, so I was surprised that he didn't light up in this flick till the end of Part 5. I don't know if these habits also applied to his real life, but he did manage to live till 91!

@JanWest24 The father character was the great Eugene Pallette. He played wealthy fathers in the 30's and 40's, but in his "thinner" days, he was a romantic leading man in silent films. He was a treasure.
