TIS AUTUMN ~ Woody Herman & Orchestra ~ 1941 ~ Decca Records. Except for a brief bit by Carolyn Grey, "Autumn" is all Woody Herman. As usual, he handled the vocals well. Whether it was a jump number or a ballad, Woody Herman, could pull it off perfectly each and every time!

  • Fred Sanford and Smiley!

  • @panamaniak : "Fred Sanford & Smiley" ?

  • So utterly beautiful. I've give anything to live back in those days

  • @pabdiary27 : Me too. I've felt that way for most of my life.

  • @MrRJDB1969 The person who commented was referring to the characters in the show "Sandford and Son" who sang this song. As this is an old song, some people first heard it when it was featured in an episode of "Sanford and Son", so I think the commenter was just fondly remembering the song in that episode.

  • @MusicFanOnline : I agree. Thanks.

  • My dad made a record on his honeymoon singing this to my mother.

  • @pabdiary27 Only the Good part though, as alluring as those times may be to those of us who wasn't there, the reality of it was actually more evil than the times today.

  • This song is so deep and this performance is impeccable.

  • @PalJoey1957 : As was the norm with all new songs, after it's initial introduction by one orchestra , several different versions would quickly be recorded by other name bands and recording stars. This was the case with TIS AUTUMN , it was recorded several times in 1941. Yes, Woody Herman handled the vocals on many of his early recordings , except for where Frances Wayne or Carolyn Grey etc. were brought in . The recording date being 1941, should be correct though.
