  • Is it possible to actually learn Gothic, then? I'm looking for an old language to base my fantasy language off of, and I like the look of this one.

  • @bookworm56227 There is a lot missing from the Gothic language, since really all we have to go on is what's written in the new testament and a couple of random notes. We have quite a lot, though, and a lot of it is "reconstructable."

  • I liked the video ,but I just can't understand the tilte.

What do you refer to it by?

  • @MiracleKD18 Thanks. I'm not sure I understand what you don't understand. It's Gothic for Goths (the name of this series), "Lesson 01: The Alphabet, Part 2"... in that it's about the alphabet, and follows part one. Am i missing something?

  • @benjaminpauljohnson

Well... I know the difference beetwen the ancient germanic Goths and the Gothic subculture today.

And since the Goths (germanic tribe) are extint, I assume that you are trying to get "Goths" (modern subculture) to learn the extint Gothic language ;-P

  • @MiracleKD18 Please visit the Gothic for Goths website (link on the video) and click on "The History." That should explain it better than i can here in this limited space.

  • Quite interesting lesson, I must say! I'm really glad to have found this, it was really helpful, logic and thaught me a lot. I should say: Thanks for uploading!

  • Koine Greek you mean? BTW good videos!!!

  • Nice lesson in 2 comments. Wow, I must say. I'm pretty much impressed since all that you say is logical, co-relative and full of sense.

I totally agree, I didn't count at first time on Indo-european roots and of course the Sanskrit source.

Yaha, redundant to the infinite. It's like Godsgods... haha.

  • Darn short comment fields.

...anyway, this is the root of Tīwaz, greek θεός (theos) and Ζεύς (Zeus), latin deus and Jupiter, sanskrit deva and Dyauṣpitār... in indoeuropean it was usually paired with pHter (father), as in Jupiter and Dyauṣpitār, and meant something along the lines of "Sky-Father," which coordinated with PltwiHmHter (Earth-Mother). It's also related to the latin diēs (day), which makes me laugh because that makes 'Teusday' kinda redundant.
