Tee-hee. So, this is yet another vid that was knackered by copyright idiots. See the comments on the Björk vid for a potted history.

And go here for a downloadable version of this, with, spook, not the terrible replacement soundtrack that is on the YouTube version: http://www.superluminescence.co.uk/othervids/ghosts.mov

Original description:

This is rubbish. I'm an idiot, and thought i could do el cheapo compositing using simple transparency, not realising the lower layer 'ghosts' would natch get lighter and lighter.

And i messed up the interactions as well. G'uh.

So i luma key filtered them up as a bodge-measure, which looks better (but see how the table is foregrounded over the lower layer ghosts? Rubbish!)

All in all, this is an excercise in half-measures and laziness. I might do up a proper, better, working version, and work out how to do it looking snazzy and all, and without the fuckups of people walking through each other when they shouldn't, and so on and so on.

  • Come on, it's not bad. In fact, it looks very interesting. If you still have the footage, you can try Difference Matte filter in Premiere. Then put a still frame of an empty room underneath everything and adjust the transparency level of "interaction" clips. :)

  • Thank you kindly. Aye, it's not bad, just not what I initially wanted.

Maybe I'll actually get around to having a go at doing it 'properly' one day, because certainly there must be plenty of ways of doing so...

  • Sorry for the verry late reply... I think this was just a lazy use of a luma key filter (and I assume difference compositing... it's a long while since.) Basically, the lighter bits are keyed out, the darker bits stay.

  • I thought it was pretty cool.

I think the stuff I do is rubbish as well but it's fun to make and share them.

  • neat
