phil really had a tone that not many guitarists could match. robert cray once said "i first heard phil guy playing with a stratocaster and a super reverb amp and it just sounded right, i had to go get a strat right after that"
i met phil guy in ottawa at the saucy noodle that was the first blues man i ever seen live on tv i seen bb king but him live he moved me he was doing some funky shit after that he came back to my house i was renting and cooked some food the other musicians were looking at me like what the fuck how did u pull this off we became friends and next thing i was living in chicago he got me a place to stay with a old lady next thing i was jamming at the checkerboard rip my blues brother phil was cool
I had the pleasure of seeing him live at the Slippery Noodle in 1999 and he spoke to me in between sets as if we were long time friends. Such a great memory of a blue talent like Phil. I still have his autographed CD "Say What You Mean."
I love Buddy Guy, but his brother was equally impressive on the guitar. Too bad hardly anybody heard him play. Those who did see him live were very lucky. He will be missed in the world of blues. RIP Phil Guy.
