SOOTHSAYERS
Soothsayers are a London-based collective that reach far beyond the restrictive clichés of World Music. Blending the pulsating rhythms of Afrobeat with the sonic adventurousness of dub reggae and urban jazz, Soothsayers shook up the jaded music scene with their acclaimed debut album, Lost City. They followed this with Tangled Roots, an exceptional release that defies standard classifications: the West African root that drove Fela Kutis rebellion is filtered through the deeply seductive dub experimentation of Lee Perry, King Tubby and Augustus Pablo, while funk, hip hop and other contemporary elements yield a complex sound firmly lodged in Londons broader musical experience. Soothsayers meet The Red Earth Collective , the forthcoming album is in the final stages of completion. Heres a chance to check out some of the early versions of the tracks . As usual the music draws on the genres of Afrobeat, dub, funk in Soothsayers inimitable style.
YAABA FUNK
From the streets of South London comes this eleven-piece band that have been honing their sound over the last two years, whilst rocking (notoriously hard to please..) audiences all over London. Yaaba Funk, a product of Brixton, play a mix of classic 70s Ghanaian Hi-Life and hard-hitting funk, cut with a strong dose of Afro-broken-beat and more than a hint of Dub. Band members have studied African, Brazilian and Cuban music, and it shows in their strongly rhythmic sound. Two infectiously energised vocalists, a horn section and the tightest rhythm section this side of Accra are underpinned by analogue bass and African guitar, creating a 21st century urban Afro sound, that is at home on festival stages and club venues. Their live shows are renowned for raw energy, great musicianship and a visually arresting style. Yaaba Funk is a truly exhilarating experience, which is guaranteed to leave exhausted audiences in their wake.

hi i'm in one of the bands - Yaaba Funk. This really captures the vibe so well. Thanks - was it shot in that style or is that in the edit? Paul

@ritmo113 It was shot this way. It is a series of photos (SLR) and a seperate sound recording: a sort of image sound stream. I edit as little as I can. Joseph
