In 1964, up-and-coming star Barbra Streisand signed a contract with CBS to film five television specials by 1975. "My Name is Barbra" is the glorious first of these, filmed in nostalgic black-and-white. Enjoy these glimpses of her genial work.

Barbra Streisand was performing eight times a week as Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl" at the Winter Garden Theater around the time "My Name is Barbra" was filmed - cleverly, she decided to incorporate some hit songs from it in this television special. Beautifully sung - well done, Barbra!

  • Did she do this live or were the songs recorded beforehand?

  • All live! Of course, they did more than one take and selected the best. Wonderful, though, nonetheless! :)

  • She is by far, the greatest star,

  • "My Man" is the best song EVER written, but only because it was sang by the best star EVER to live. Barbra Streisand is truly inspiration ! I'm only 16, but that really does proof that any age can be a Barbra fan. (:

  • Wow, hands down, Barbra's version of "My Man" is the absolute best! She wholly owns it - lock, stock, and barrel!!

  • Well I just turned 15 and I've loved Barbra for sometime :) I literally listen to My Man everyday I wish I could find some of you Barbra fans. Nobody knows who she is at my school. If they only knew brilliant music.

  • @HannahNoelle2158 I agree with you!!!!!!! I'm 17 and she is my idol! I model my voice after hers because she is just incredible :)

  • for some reason in this setup she reminds me Amy Winehouse

  • @yougottagetagimmick Hello??? It's BARBRA STREISAND..... she's ALL LIVE ALL TALENT

  • Sorry, the director of this special stated in no uncertain terms in an interview (here on Youtube) that B sang the songs "live" to prerecorded tracks AND THERE WAS NO AUDIENCE

  • AMAZING!!!

  • i love streisand here she seems happy and relaxed and very HOT! Streisand rules!

  • Most beautiful being ever to exist!

  • I love her, she's the greatest singer for me!

  • 'I am woman, you are man' is sung more uptempo than what should be, which is probably because she wanted to experiment outside of the grind of doing the same style and speed night after night. the mood of the lyrics loses out in this style.

    filmed in black and white--

in 1964, NBC was the only all color network. CBS was still doing most of the half hour comedies in b/w. color was expensive because it was being bought up by the government for filming recon missions in viet nam's forests.
