My pet Whitetail buck, of 2 years old, rubs off velvet on a brush pile. Then, begins to eat it.

  • What is Velvet?

  • @inuchanz Velvet is a protective, skin type covering that feels velvety to the touch. It covers the deers antlers entirely during the growing months. Every year, a whitetail will grow new antlers starting in the spring. By summers end, the fragile antlers will harden leaving the velvet, skin type covering to dry up and peel. The deer then "rubs" off the velvet, exposing the hardened antlers underneath.
