  • Thank you for sharing this video. Watching this allowed me to relive the nightmare, near fatal hike I took into the inner gorge of The Grand Canyon on Hermit's Trail. I can't believe how naive, dumb, and I'll-prepared I was for this 2 day hike back in '72 when I was a clueless 21 year old. My confidence in doing this trail was based on nothing but youthful hubris. Even if you've done the Boston Marathon does not qualify you for such a trip by itself.

  • but i brought a VERY light pack and it wasn't too hot. I can't imagine what it felt like with no water there in the summer!!!!! I hope the person whose water that was wasn't camping down at the bottom!

  • Thanks for posting! i also hiked this trail alone this year on memorial day weekend. I also DIDN"T SEE A SINGLE PERSON and had no cell phone reception! I almost stepped on a baby rattle snake that was sitting in the middle of the trail. I also only brought 6 liters of water. I left at about 4 pm and was at the bottom in 5 hours and i figured my last 4 liters would be sufficient. I was wrong! i started hiking back out at 4 am but i ran out of water at about the same spot you found the water.

  • At 6:46 when you say that you are "that close" you couldn't have been more wrong. That last little bit of trail is pretty rough. Glad you made it out ok! Someone just died on Tanner beach a few weeks ago, so consider yourself lucky.

  • Glad you are able to realize your mistakes. A good time to hike the Tanner is March, early April, late October, and early November when the temperatures are more pleasant at the bottom - and cold up top. FYI you only went about 12-12.5 miles in total, your estimate at the end is a bit off.

  • this was so awesome! i wanna do this

  • great video, i didn't realize at the beginning of the video how grueling that hike was going to get
