I hate how people complain about superior technology costing to much when it will be the last thing defending their sorry asses. If you don't like how America operates just live in some other country. Russia is developing their generation 5 fighter, I wonder how much that is costing them and whether or not they are in a better position to be spending that kind of money as well, I guess there isn't a price on national defense for them. So are you putting a price on preservation of your freedom?

It would not compete in combat against a modern fighter. not does it have vectored thrust like the raptor. but it's performance back in the day was mind blowing.
with regards to what it did years ago. I believe it was the only aircraft at the time to intercept a Concorde in a training exercise with NATO. buzzed a U2 spy plane from above!!! and set many climb and acceleration records. think it's safe to say it set a bench mark for many other fighters. just my tuppence worth anyway

Very impressive fighter! But consider the fact that the English electric lightning did something similar 50 yrs ago :)
