Evgeny's playing was, of course, always technically perfect, but now, matured and 40 years old, he's from another planet. The best Chopin I (66 years old) ever heard. Last sunday he played at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; we were there and I was in tears most of the time.
@MozartK365 Yes, Zimerman is more intense and really "lived through". But I don't like his "segmented" playing. And I don't mean rubato as such here (which is of course absolutely necessary for Chopin). He has a habit of cutting phrases into pieces or segments.
