some does not know that a "virus" means "having maleware". In most contens, virus and maleware are exact the same thing.
Malware meas, it forces your OS to do things, that the user >do not want<.
Mac, for example, sometimes force the user to install an upgrade (funny jumping box down right like a fucking jumping terriar) in most cases, the user feel disturbet to that update, and maybe dont want to update his mashine.
So in fact: Mac contens Malware out of the box. also google image: "mac error"
@joewillgo They aren't getting Viruses, they are getting Malware, which the only big outbreak of Mac Malware has been one a user would have to install themselves.
It's not true that viruses target Windows because they have a majority market share, as the primary target of viruses are large businesses - usually to steal financial data - the majority of which use Unix/Linux for financial data storage.
Unix/Linux is the big target of malware, not Windows.
Unix is the majority share holder in the market that viruses are aimed at.
Yet despite being the majority - the big target - no viruses.
ALSO... Macs are starting to get more viruses because more people are switching to them, mainly because of Vista. And if everyone was to have a Mac, then Macs would have much viruses as a PC would. Macs are starting to get more and more virus. And Apple started to recommend for everyone to get antivirus software for there Macs. I would recommend Norton.
Data IS recoverable for a Mac long if you use Time Machine. And yes, Mac's do get virus, who said they don't? Apple is trying to say there are more virus for PC's then Mac's. And Apple never said Macs were virus proof, they even said Macs could get virus on there website. But you have a less of a chance of getting a virus on a Mac if you compare it to a PC. And data is recoverable.
i agree with manbearpig91 when i was in elementary school our teacher's mac got a virus! since then i've seen about 10 or 20 macs get viruses and when a mac gets a virus it isn't recoverable like a pc ive recovered about 50 pcs form viruses but i haven't been able to recover data form a single infected mac because apple claims "macs don't get viruses" less and less people look for anti-virus for thier mac.
so my friend, who has no money, is supposed to upgrade to leopard, and then buy an external hard drive??? that makes no sense!!! ive used macs a ton and those suckers freeze up and crash just as much as a pc might. Dont take me for some PC fanboy, as i am saving my money for a mac right now. i just bashing this commercial because it is hypocritical and immature. Also, why would someone buy virus software for a mac that they spent so much money on to not have viruses??
The chance of someone getting a virus on there Mac is much of a chance as someone getting the Swine Flu. So I'm sure your friend got the swine flu. Besides, it must not be that important if she did not back up her files. She should of used Time Machine, which is very helpful, and I think if your put Norton on your Mac, your Mac will be 100% virus proof!
when she said no viruses, why didnt the mac leave?? i have a friend that lost all her professional photographs on her new imac, but my old crappy DELL laptop has never lost me any data

Unix/Linux OS's are impervious to viruses.

Seems strange, huh?
