The best final scene in cinema? A tough call, but this moving and unforgettable scene ranks with the greatest ones. After the preening head officers unjustly execute three decent infantrymen, the rest Kirk Douglas' unit is given some last minute entertainment before returning to the front where more bloody and pointless battles await them.

  • I wouldn't be so quick to call this film "Kubrick's masterpiece". Kubrick's films were in many ways the collective efforts of the people who were involved with him, and in the making of the films he was fortunate enough to be granted the honor of taking credit for. Kurt Douglas was a major influence in the making of that film. Of Kubrick he later wrote in his book "Ragman's Son", "Kubrick was a Shit, but a talented Shit". When Kubrick read this it really twisted his pea brain in a knot!

  • @Therealtaxidriver - Good on you for saying this. I'll still keep it in the masterpiece column, but these comments are good to include, especially Douglas' importance in making it. He produced the show.

  • Este filme é muito bom. Este final é espetacular.

  • @skittlesareyum48 It wouldn't if the poster had continued through to the final credits, the way Kubrick originally edited it. Watch the original.

  • @Scipio0 Yes my good fellow. I did mean to say Kirk instead of Kurt. Thnks for the polite correction. I make a lot of typos when I post comments with my tiny netbook. And at my advanced age my vision is not what it should be anymore. Boy I sure wish you could have been there to witness the hissy fit Kubrick had over the remark Douglas wrote in that book. Kubrick like most arrogant egotistical show biz Yids could not bear up to even the slightest hint of criticism, concerning himself or his work.

  • @Therealtaxidriver you mean kirk douglas i assume?

  • Obra-prima de Stanley Kubrick, "Glória feita de sangue" um verdadeiro mestre Stanley Kubrick

  • @metsfan259 You know, that is a good point. I didn't see it that way. Thanks.

  • @skittlesareyum48 Isn't that the point though? The moment for the soldiers would be interrupted by more fighting just like the drums interrupted the singing.

  • One of the best scenes in movie history!
