All the time, I hear people from outside of Wisconsin comment on the Wisconsin accent.

  • My Wisconsin database so far: dragging = draygin' bag = bayg flag = flayg root = ruht roof = ruhf measure = mayshure swag = swayg water fountain = bubbler traffic lights = stop'n'go lights Northern U.S. = up nort' A = eh ("Let's tune to a concert EH") About every sentence starts with OH and ends with EH. Don't get me wrong. I'm from Texas, and I find Wisconsin accents rather amusing. =] Someone from my school is from Green Bay, and I love hearing her speak! (And that's where I got my database.)
  • @christianac123 - I can't believe I'm actually remarking on a YouTube video about Wisconsin accents, but I have to. You are 150% right on! I'm originally from Wisconsin and have a friend in Texas who I talk to and he's merciless when teasing me about how I talk. Bag = bayg is the #1 thing he picks on. Not sure what side of the "pop line" your friend was on, but at least in Northern Wisconsin we drink soda, not pop and fish outta cricks (not creeks). <3

  • @christianac123 stop'n'go lights and up nort are old sayings. also eh is more of a Canada and Minnesota (or close to the border) thing.

  • @kaysweetthang Yeah i live in Wisconsin but i'm only 30 minutes away from St Paul.

  • Awe it's so cute(:

  • @christianac123 it depends where you are from. 50% of these are true. I am from southern Wisconsin and I have never said "eh" or "stop'n'go lights" or "up nort. But everything else is spot on.

  • @MakeupByJennaMarie

Osceola here. We speak 99.5% the same. lol

  • Also, we pronounce Wisconsin as........... Wi-Skon-Sin

  • I live in a border town in Wisconsin and Minnesota. I tell people I live in Minnesconsin because the Cities/Twin Cities is the closest metro area to me. When I lived in Austin, TX for 10 months no one could tell where I was from. They said it sounded normal. In actuality, the "Midwestern" dialect is the one most try to emulate in America when pursuing a career in big acting or theatre. But we do have a problem with BAG. It's very much BAYG here. Like the poster said, it just feels wrong not to.

  • Madison does not have the typical wisconsin accent.

  • There seems to be the tiniest hint of an l in your "phone".

  • You're right, it's not WiskHonson, but it's also not WiscAnson, which is the way you're pronouncing it.
