Congential nystagmus is a condition a person is born with. In my sons case his eyes move horizontally. There are other types too. He also has astygmatism and poor vision, yet he began reading at age three. He's five now and is just beginning to read easy chapter books but they can't be really small print.

  • I was born with this. I have the equal education of anyone else, can perform any tasks. doctors said i probably wouldnt drive, now I drive firetrucks for a living. Surgery is an option but not worth the risks. just dont let the naive comments of others ever get you down.

  • awwwwwww. i feel so bad i can do that to but i can control mine :( i wish u all the best

  • Poor child. Wish you all the best!

  • rock on kiddo. your one of us. i have the same thing

  • I have nystagmus, and I'm legally blind. I'm glad there is more information about it to inform people what it is. People are very cruel and I was teased for it daily. I hope people learn to keep their mouths shut, because if you were in the same situation you wouldn't want to be teased for something you can't help. He's an adorable kid. :)

  • This is actually pretty cool.

  • I'm a nursing student and all of the comments and this video really helped me understand nystagmus, thank you! And good luck to you and your cute kiddo, proud of you for teaching him to read even though it's hard for him; that is a huge accomplishment for kids with regular vision these days, let alone a child with an eye condition. Kudos!!

  • I have congenital nystagmus also. It makes things hard, but I hope everything goes alright for your son. He seems to do better than I do. If I'm tired I can't seem to see anything correctly, and if I look at something too long it does start moving back and forth.

I hope that your son is recognized for what he has, because not a lot of people seem to consider how I see things, not even my teachers.

  • @tomasp12 do u have it?.if not you dont know how it is to live with that....and all the stuff caused by it!

  • @Woundtootight i feel the same sometimes..i was born with it......i hate it,really........
