A truck hauling sulfuric acid spilled the chemical on northbound U.S. Highway 95 near Eastern Avenue this afternoon, shutting down the highway in both directions, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
Trooper Joseph Fackrell said the acid spill stretches over 100 feet. The truck was hauling 55 gallons of the chemical. The incident happened about 4:30 p.m., and Fackrell said it will take a couple of hours to clear the spill.
Police don't know what caused the spill.
Fackrell said the spill has closed U.S. 95 between Charleston and Las Vegas boulevards while authorities clean it up. Eastern also was partially closed.
