A BBC documentary from 2003 (I think) looking at the problem of gang-related crime in black communities and the connnection with music (specifically Hip Hop & Garage). The sad thing is, six years later, the music hasn't got any more positive. If anything it's got worse - especially with the rise of Grime. More importantly, our young men and women are still fighting and killing eachother for 'control' of towns and cities, and our community leaders and conscious-types have not really stepped-up to provide credible and sustainable ideas on how to tackle these problems.

  • my question to the record labels if they frown gun and crime and drugs why do they promote an artist who talks about it?

  • @daggakid90 Good question. They would just say that they are giving people what they want. Basically, they are not all that bothered about the issues because their motivation is to make sure that they can generate sales and that their labels can make profit and not go under.

  • The part with the funeral gave me some serious goosebumps man.

One thing I will say though is that although I was never a SoSolid fan I did agree with one thing that Asher D said " I don't spend my money I let it grow" Theres a lil lesson in that I think otherwise again its so sad to hear some of them young men speak the way they do as if thier life is worth nothing.....

  • Yeah, that scene is heart-wrenching. Tears well up in my eyes whenever I see it.

Looking back, it's a shame what happened to So Solid. At one stage, they were real homegrown success story (like Dizzie). But the problem was always the message in their music, their posturing, bragging, niggatude, etc. They were at the forefront of the badman garage crap, so they were very easy targets once the media frenzy kicked-off. They only have themselves to blame for their spectacular fall.
