Alaskan C-17 Fatal Accident (Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska) July 28, 2010 No Crash Shown

**Video footage of the mishap flight has been edited to cut off just prior to the aircraft's impact, out of consideration and respect for the families of the deceased**

This incident resulted in the deaths of the four crewmembers aboard, the destruction of the $184 million aircraft, and damage to part of the Alaska Railroad.

The mishap occurred as the C-17 -- tail number 00-0173 and call sign Sitka 43 -- practiced for the Arctic Thunder Air Show scheduled for the weekend of July 31 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

The accident investigation board found clear and convincing evidence the cause of the mishap was pilot error. The investigation revealed the pilot placed the aircraft outside established flight parameters and capabilities. During the mishap sortie, the pilot aggressively flew the aircraft in a manner inconsistent with established flight procedures, resulting in a stall. The pilot failed to take required stall recovery actions. Furthermore, the board concluded the co-pilot and safety observer failed to recognize or address the developing dangerous situation. As a result, the C-17 stalled at an attitude and altitude from which recovery to controlled flight was impossible

@Marcus666Sund If it's so disturbing to you, don't watch the end. It's not like your going to see bodies from 4-5miles away anyway.  Just a huge fireball. There's nothing disgusting about it. There are plenty of videos with plenty of graphic content. For example: An Su-27 plowing through a crowd. Blood and dismembered bodies everywhere. Our former President getting his head blown off. Those things would suit your argument much better

What happened was that the pilot had WAY TOO MUCH confidence. He needed to understand that this was not a f-16 or f-15 but a huge plane, yet he decides to take a max performance take off with high pitch and yaw maneuvers. There is a point on when a plane such as this size can no longer be in flight when you pitch the plane at a certain angle. This is what the pilot did and made the plane go into a 'free fall' or stall basically. R.I.P.

Terrible waste of life and machinery. That there was a critical failure among the entire crew to police themselves is inexcusable, especially in a military operation.
