  • Didn't know Skaife was an engine. What happened was a massive misfire through the engine and out the exhaust pipes. The car could of been repaired and sent back out but not 100% safe. Jeff Grech made the decision to retire the car. Skaife had nothing too do with it. He was just driving the car @ the time.

  • hey scorpio, can you tell me why he retired? was it because he was out of contract?? or did he say it was the right time?? can you tell me????

  • Well i remember I meet the man the day before he announced his retirement... Brock wanted to go out on top, he knew there were young drivers coming through the ranks, and wanted to go do something else.

  • Perkins Did not use Holden engines till 99, he ran Chevs after his last win in the 304 in 93, just like everyone else.

From what I was told, the Brock engine didn't just have a misfire, it dropped a valve, that was the real reason they didn't get it going again.

Brock retired for a number of reasons. He was smart enough to see the writing on the wall and go out on top. V8supercars had taken over, channel 7 lost the rights to televise the races, young drivers were coming through the ranks......

  • Now those were the days of the great race! Real gearbox, real cars and real drivers!!

  • Sure, the privateers probably were, but not the top level teams which was my original point.

  • @andcom05 some of the privateers were still using the holden block in the 96 race.

  • God i miss Brockie he was a great man and a great driver!

  • perkins did use the holden 304 motors up till 99 then changed to the chevy engine.

  • Yes they were, the chevs were made mandatory after 93.

  • Were they using the Chevy V8 in the race???
