Excellent quality review! The Yaesu FT-897D is not a comparable unit to the Kenwood TS-590s. A more equivalent unit would be the Yaesu FT-950. I did like this comparison because it shows you reallydo get better performance for the additional cost. You helped push me to get a higher quality unit for my base station. @M0AOV You can't because they don't exist on the FT897 unless you buy and fit additional filters at £100+ per time and even then, they are fixed unlike the TS590 where it is done in IF DSP as well as the two fitted roofing filters at 2.7kHz and 500Hz.
what ever filters or NR you do on the 590 you should do on the 897 because really you wasted over 5 mins showing the 590 in a good light but really you haven't compared the 590 against the 897 because nothing was the same.
