If you you only have a power supply with 1 4pin connector, it is possible to make it run a motherboard that requires an 8pin connector. To do this you need to make your own 8, or 2x4 port connector piece.

I did this by shaving down an old power supplies 4 pin end tip, and wiring it to the current power supply.

You just have to make sure the wires match up in color with yours, this way you are using the same amount of power.

After doing this we managed to get the motherboard running and had no problems.

  • how do you wire the other 4 pin in?

  • Hi!

My motherboard (GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R X58 S-1366 ATX) and my PSU

    (CORSAIR TX 750W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V) will they work togheter?

I know there is an 8-pin motherboard connector on it... but it says 1x ATX12V 2.2 / 1x EPS12V, like if they were in two peaces?

Does this mean I only have to plug in one of them (which one) or do I need them both?

    Thanks in advance.

  • @mathias921 hey i think only 1 will plug in, if you try they have little groves. The motherboards these days are made idiot proof, if you can plug it in, it will probably work.

  • no problems at all? beacuse i'm having the very same problem

  • @Kexev nope, my friend is still using this plug today.

so im guessing thats 2 months of no problems so far.

  • u can run an 8 pin with a 4 pin :L but your hardware can get damaged because of less power going into the motherboard lol

  • hey dude plz answer me my motherboard has 8 pin connector my psu does have one 4 pin whit clip and another one 4 pin without clip can i use this two together to power up the 8 pin connector plz anyone answer me

  • dont do it its not stable .. !

  • hi i too have the same problem, stuck with a 4 pin power suply unit, and my motherboard is 8pin,,,can you show me ??? form where did you take the other 2 yellow wires and 2 black wires, from molex connector?? maybe i am wrong but arent the molex connectors 5v?? ohh i am so comfused...

  • jesus christ... instead of potentially shorting out your motherboard just plug the 4 pin into the 8 pin socket 9 times outta 10 this will work... if not just by a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter they are cheap and a lot safer than hotiwring a rigged up 4 pin directly into a molex. think on

  • I did the same thing but i just spliced into the other 4 that were already plugged into it. Been running 6 years no problems.

  • Thanks uploader cenkaetaya!! I had the same problem, but now fixed!! Much appreciatted =)
