"Jitong Railway" (JiningNan-Tongliao) which penetrates Mongolian Big Mountain Range was well-known as the last paradise of steam locomotive.

  • @Isochest What's that mean?As I know electric locos in the Milwaukee Road are usually used as helper engines, while in CHINA ,the mainlines such as Beijing-Guangzhou railroad are totally electricified ,these raillines use electric locos to haul almost both passanger trains and freight trains.

  • @Buemmo What about a couple of articulated electric locos doing the biz in the good ol' US of A? Like the Milwaukee Road. This will return.

  • coool ;o)

  • @GutenTag7777 but where do electricity come from? (just pulling your leg haha :D)

  • @Buemmo I agree with you on that. Two steamers are better than 6+diesels. But nothing can beat electric. E-locomotives produce little waste heat and can feed energy back into the grid when traveling downhill or slowing down. In much of Europe most major routes are electric and I wish the US would catch on.

  • oww the horn kills the steam atmosphere. in my opinion the worst thing you can do to a steam locomotive is equipping it with a signal horn instead of a whistle

  • @GutenTag7777 im not so sure about that. I dont know where steam locomotive technology would be if it would have been the focus of railways for the past 50 years. Many engineers (eg. david wardale) have shown that theres a lot more potential in steam locomotives and theres also one thing: do you think it is better for environment if 6 to 8 diesel electric locomotives pull a freight train up cheyenne mountain instead of 2 mallets?

  • love the sound

  • Steam trains are highly inefficient compared to diesel-electric or electric but are way more romantic. I really enjoy watching them.

  • hahaha, the engineers are looking at the camera man like "are you crazy?"
