hahaha, oh man....recently there's actually been studies done on the real effect of porn on possible rape and it turns out that it can actually be a deterrent. in comparison, which would you rather do: stay in your room with any variety of pornogrophy that you can think of or go out and risk being arrested to satisfy your sexual "needs"? the same was found to be true of violent movies in relation to violent crimes.

Another thing is loose statics, no matter how "wide range" it is, is not convincing evidence.

I am not denying that rape is an epidemic, because by all means it is. I also think porn does degrade women. However, I think Russell's research was too biased and faulty. I find it hard to believe that a huge percentage of the male population is pro-rape, even though we do live in a rape culture to an extent.

There are some things I agree with her on, and to a point we do live in a rape culture, and I do agree that porn is trashy.

However, her evidence is not convincing enough. She claimed that her survey was on students so that alone brings up a lot of questions. There is a lack of maturity among the students, so either their mentality is not fully developed or they were probably not taking this survey seriously. So I can't really agree the evidence is empirical.

My first thought: who gave her a degree? My second thought: I, too, can go out an ask 10 people the same question and if 6 answer the same I can say 60%; which sounds like a much larger figure than if I were to say "well, six people said this." My third thought: I've seen lots of porn, and largely it is non violent, to see any with violence you have to go back to the 1980s and 70s. And I have never seen rape in porn.
